Shelf v Battyeford Q/F Final 29th Nov 2009
Shelf welcomed today Simon and his Battyeford girls for our Q/F Cup game. Batteford have been in good form of late, including an impressive 10.3 victory over Mapplewell, so Shelf knew today they had to be at their best to go through to the Semi Final's.
The game started well for Shelf, and saw Hannah hit a bullet shot that rocketed the Battyeford bar, but sadly the ball went the wrong side of the goal. However after 7 minutes Hannah was played a great pass from Chloe and this time she did not miss as Shelf went 1-0 up. Battyeford looked strong in attack and after 15 minutes they equalised, which sadly came from a Shelf defensive mistake. This did not stop Shelf who were playing some really nice passing football and after 20 minutes a great run down the right wing from Francesca saw her hit a rocket of a shot which hit the top right roof of the net and put Shelf 2-1 up. 2 minutes later and another strong run down the right from Francesca saw a great cross to Hannah who made it 3-1. Shelf were now dominating the game which was down to a great team effort and some good midfield ball winning from Chloe and Ebony. A good pass from Shannon to Lavinia saw LoL run down the left wing play a nice one two with Ebony and cross the ball over for Francesca in the penalty area and take her 2nd goal of the game and Shelf's 4th.
A good pass from Rebecca to Chloe saw Chloe turn and beat one player and pass a great ball to Hannah who struck home her 3rd goal of the game to make it 5-1 to Shelf. Shelf then defended really well, which saw both Cassie and Shannon clear good balls out of dangerous positions. HT Shelf 5 v Battyeford 1.
The second half saw Abi slot into right back in place of Rebecca, Anna (back from injury) replace Lavinia, and Olivia come on for the hatrick girl Hannah. Shelf were heading up hill now, however the changes made no difference at all as all 3 players slotted in very well. Anna made a good run down the left and passed to Ebony in support who then struck a great shot which hit the back of the net and make it 6-1. Shelf continued to battle hard in Midfield with Anna, Francesca Ebony and especially Chole making some great ball wining tackles.
Olivia was receiving some nice through balls from the Shelf midfield and this saw her go very close for the 7th goal as she controlled the ball turned well and ran at the battyeford defence only to see her shot just go wide. Another good run from Olivia brought a good cross in from Francesca which ended in a bit of a goal area scramble and saw Olivia score a deserved Shelf 7th Goal.
Shelf's defence were working really well together and great communication between Cassie and Abi saw a dangerous move from Battyeford come to no avail. Abi then cleared the ball well and mad a good pass to Rebecca. Rebecca then played a nice one two with Hannah, and pass a running ball to Lavinia who crossed a accurate pass in the middle for Anna to get back on the scoring sheet and take Shelf's goals to eight.
Battyeford then scored a great long range goal from their attacker who along wth their right winger had good games. With only 5 minutes left Shelf won a penalty from good work from Shannon down the left to Anna who crosed the ball to Lavinia on the right. Lavinia then got infringed from a Battyeford player and a penalty was correctly awarded, unfortunatly LOL could not pass the Battyeford keeper who made a good save, indeed she made several during the game and put in a strong performance.
Final Score Shelf 8 v Battyeford 2
Managers Comments : A very good performance today girls, we played some of the best football of the season so far. Our midfield girls were excellant, not just in attack but in winning the ball (our training during the last two weeks paid off well!!!!). All 12 players played a part in todays win and shows that we are becoming a good tight unit. The teamwork and communication between you all was without doubt the difference today - well done Lets keep it up, we are now in the Cup Semi Final's.
