LATEST GAME 6th MARCH BATTYEFORD 0 V SHELF 3
Shef visited Battyeford for the 1st time and had a squad of 10 players for the game (Hannah unavialble and Rebecca injured were are only absentees).
Battyeford and Shelf both started the game well and were closing one another down. However a good move down the right from Ebony and Francesca resulted in a corner and this brought Shelf's 1st goal game from a good strike from Anna 1.0 Shelf.
HT Battyeford 0 v Shelf 1
The 2nd half saw Shelf dominate for long periods, though Battyeford were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. This was mainly due to good goalkeeping from Shannon and defending from Chloe, Shannon, Cassie and Abi.
Shelf scored a 2nd goal from a great corner from Ebony which saw Abi jump up and header the ball into the roof of the net (Abi's 1st goal for Shelf and what a beauty). The goal enabled Shelf to relax and play some good football for the last 20 minutes. Shelf scored a 3rd Goal when Anna hit a rather unusal shot that went miles up in the air and ended up in the back of the net.
Final score Battyeford 0 v Shelf 3
Mangers Comments Shannon - Well played today you commanded your goal area and made some very good saves. Make sure you keep communicating and helping your defence when we need to pick players up. Away manager award so its not only us who think you are a good keeper. Cassie - You are a great Captain young lady and always give me 100% effort. Today you had an injury that was making you uncomfortable, however well done in keeping going for 30 minutes. Do keep watching that ball at all times and it was good to see you taking players away from the middle when the opposition attacked. Abi - Your control of the ball is improving with every game, and it was good to see you acting as cover in defence ( just as we have been practising in training). Your header was fantastic and without doubt won us the game, keep it up. Chloe - It is really good to see you adapting very well at left back, and your offensive game is great to watch. Good to see you providing balance and cover for your defence. Please do though remember to push out of defence at all times, when we are getting the ball out of our 18 yard area. Remember football is a team game and you are an important team player. Shannon - A great game today both at right back and centre half. You have great pace and kept the Batyyeford centre forward quiet all game. Ebony - My player of the game today, your corners were spot on every time and your throu balls to your attacking forwards put the Battyeford defence under a lot of pressure. Keep working hard when you have not got the ball by closing down your opposition. Overall outstanding Olivia - Your 1st touch and control of the ball was very good again today and you were unlucky when a few of your passes just did not reach your winger. You played well in midfiled keep it up. Francesca - You had constant attention today from a good Battyeford defender, however you kept going and got some great runs and crosses in. It was really good to see you working back and defending which made your game more complete. Lavinia - A quiet 1st half mainly due to the strong Battyeford defender who was marking you. The 2nd half saw you do what your manager asked and you ran at the defence causing a quite a few problems, especially with your long range shots. Anna - A very good centre forward display today, and you scored another couple of goals. Please keep closing down the players near you as they will make mistakes as you found out. Well done
28TH FEB LEAGUE GAME MAPPLEWELL MAVS 2 V SHELF GIRLS 7
Today Shelf managed to field 11 fit players for the 1st time in 3 months, and their aim today was to play well as a team. Straight from the kick off Shelf did not disapoint and clossed down on the Mapplewell midfield putting them under great pressure. This allowed the Shelf Attack to receive some nice ball and after 6 minutes a hard long range shot from Hannah hit the back of the net to make it 1.0.
A really nice move down the right from Francesca and well supported by Shannon once again saw the ball come to Hannah's feet who quickly turned and then hit a bullet of a shot that made it 2.0 after 16 minutes.
Shelf were dominating the game and several nice passing moves and shots resulted in good saves from the excellant Mapplewell keeper. After 25 minutes Lavinia picked the ball up from the half way line played a one two with Ebony and then raced down the line beating 2 players to put a great cross in which was recieved with thanks to Francesca who slide the ball in the net to make it 3.0.
The Shelf defence were keeping the Mapplewell attack at bay and this continued when Abi joined the back 3. Nice play and accurate passing from both Abi and Francesca saw the latter cross a lovely ball into the middle for Anna to volley on the full into the top right hand corner of the net.
Half Time Mapplewell 0 v Shelf 4
The 2nd half saw Shelf move a few players around, and also saw Mapplewell come out fighting. Olivia and Lavinia both went close with good efforts, however it was Mapplewell who scored the next goal from good play from Bryanie 4.1. Francesca was causing the Mapplewell left back problems everytime she had the ball and a nice pass from her saw the ball come to Hannah on the right who turned once again beat a player and then rocket her hatrick goal into the top left roof of the net ( Now as an ex Mapplewell player this was special for her, especially her Eric Cantona celebration) 5.1.
Mapplewell then caused Shelf a few problems and they were unlucky not to score again, however the Shelf attack were at their best and well supported by Chloe and Shannon. Once again a great run and cross from Francesca found Anna to strike her 2nd goal of the game 6.1. Five minutes later a carbon copy of the last goal happened (thou good work from Ebony and Chloe) found Anna who scored her 3rd and hatrick goal.
Mapplewell were causing the Shelf defence a few problems and deseredly scored a 2nd goal late on to make the final score Mapplewell 2 v Shelf 7
Mangers Comments
Well done today girls, it was important that we got our confidence back after the last 2 games. Overall we played well and I was very pleased especially in the 1st half where we closed Mapplewell down everytime. We now just need BEX back and we will be back to full strength (So Bex keep doing your excerises at home).
